Is Bronchitis Contagious?

Do I Have Bronchitis?

When there is an inflammation in the bronchial tubes, which carry air to the lungs, bronchitis is diagnosed. It is important to seek medical attention for bronchitis so that you can prevent it from turning into pneumonia, which happens once the infection moves into the lungs.

Symptoms of Bronchitis

  • Chest pressure
  • Cough (dry or chronic)
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Post-nasal drip
  • Runny nose
  • Shortness of breath
  • Sore throat

Can I “Catch” Bronchitis?

While chronic bronchitis isn’t contagious, acute bronchitis is since it is usually follows a cold or the flu.

Treatment for Bronchitis

  • If prescribed an antibiotic, take as directed.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Get lots of rest.
  • Take OTC meds to lower fever, ease cough and reduce pain.
  • Utilize a humidifier at night to add moisture to the air.
